Francesca is now one and refuses to be called a baby any longer!
Above are a video clip of her eating a cupcake on her actual birthday, photos of her birthday party, and photos taken right before she turned one. Francesca's party was great fun, with over 25 guests, four cakes (chocolate, carrot, lemon, and chocolate with coffee buttercream frosting -- yum, yum, yum), three gallons of ice cream, and 30 balloons. Thanks to all our Bay Area friends for coming over to mark the occasion. Francesca was a bit stunned by it all at first, but over the following days showed her annoyance that there was not going to be a party every day.
The one-year old very much enjoys touching anyone and everyone's noses while saying "beep-beep" -- in fact, she is adding new sounds and words all the time and promises to be a chatterbox extraordinaire in the not far future -- the current favorites are cat and hat and various animals sounds. Francesca also delights in proclaiming "hi!" (a two-syllable greeting along the lines of hi-i) to everyone.
Francesca is also working on her walking and, after practicing with a few steps at a time, on September 23 officially became a walker when she began walking across entire rooms on her own. Just to be sure to be a complete menace to herself, she has also begun climbing in earnest.
Francesca had her one-year doctor's visit and was pronounced fit as a fiddle in every way. With a height of 32 1/2 inches and weight of a little under 28 pounds, she continues to be off the growth charts. Her mama is not enjoying the prospect of having to tell Francesca to sit down before being able to give her a good talking to.
Feeling that something was missing from her grown-up life as a one-year old, Francesca made her media debut on September 30, 2002, in The Examiner, a San Francisco newspaper. A photo of the little diva accompanied an article on the haute couture baby set entitled "Oh, baby, that's just divine!"
